EASF and UNITAR Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Cooperation in Peace and Security

Geneva, Switzerland, 19 June 2026 – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in peace and security, marking a significant step in advancing their strategic partnership.

The MoU was signed on Friday, 19 June 2026, at UNITAR Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, following the successful conclusion of the three-day Senior Leadership for Peace Seminar 2026. The agreement was signed by the Director of EASF and the Director of UNITAR in the presence of representatives and staff from both institutions, with participants attending both in person and virtually.

The partnership establishes a framework for enhanced collaboration in capacity building, training, research, and knowledge sharing. Through the agreement, EASF and UNITAR will work together to strengthen leadership development, support peacebuilding initiatives, enhance institutional capacities, and promote sustainable peace and security in Eastern Africa and beyond.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative action and innovation in addressing evolving peace and security challenges. The partnership is expected to create new opportunities for joint training programmes, research initiatives, and capacity-building activities that contribute to regional and international peace efforts.

The signing of the MoU reflects the shared vision of EASF and UNITAR to advance effective leadership, strengthen resilience, and foster sustainable peace through strategic cooperation.
