The Contingent Owned Equipment (COE) Syllabus development workshop was officially opened on Monday 24th April, at the EASF Logistics Base in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. The Workshop brings together representatives from member states, EASF staff and two experts from the Republic of Kenya; Lt Col George Njogu and Lt Col Veronica Owuor. It is aimed at developing a syllabus that will be used by EASF to facilitate the COE officers’ Course in Future.

In his opening remarks the chief guest, Col Ahmed Essa Ahmed (Chief of Staff LogBase) welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the COE Course.

“The COE Officers’ course is a very important course to all Member States contributing troops for EASF mandated missions. It is even more important that Commanding Officers and unit logistics officers of a unit proceeding for deployment are acquainted with the basics of UN/AU/EASF reimbursement methods. It is worth noting that a lot of technical understanding of the UN/AU/EASF reimbursement procedures are needed by the TCC/PCC actors involved in MOU negotiations and mission planning.”

He thus, urged the participants to take time to develop a syllabus that will ensure both EASF and Member states have a common understanding when it comes to reimbursement of deployed personnel and equipment.

The workshop is sponsored by the African Union under the APSA programme and will run from 24th April to 28th April 2023.
