EASF Management Retreat in Mombasa
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) conducted from 17th March in Mombasa (Kenya) of a two-days Executive Management Retreat themed “Strengthening EASF Mandate and Performance in the Region”. The main purpose of the Retreat was to provide Management Team with a platform to reflect and evaluate the Organization in order to assess how well it is achieving its goals.
Enhancing coordination for the Police Component
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) conducted a Police Points of Contact (PPOC) workshop in Mombasa, Kenya, from 9th – 12th March 2023. The aim was to update the nine Member States represented on the achievements, progress and challenges of EASF Police component and the need to keep an updated Police database.

ATMIS and EASF joint seminar
The opening ceremony of a Joint Seminar by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) took place in Mogadishu, Somalia on Monday 6th March, 2023.
EASF Senior Management Work Visit to ATMIS
Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Director of the Secretariat, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa led on 5th March an EASF Delegation to Mogadishu. The objective is to strengthen the collaboration and the cooperation with the key stakeholders in Somalia.
31st Ordinary Policy Organs Council Meeting
The 31st Ordinary Policy Organs Meetings of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 9 to 14 February 2023. After the Experts Working Group (EWG) on 9-11 February, followed by the Eastern Africa Chiefs of Defense and Security (EACDS) on 12-13 February, the Council of Ministers of Defense and Security was held on 14 February 2023, under the chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Abraham Belay of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
31st Ordinary Policy Organs EACDS Meeting
The Committee of the Eastern Africa Chiefs of Defence and Security (EACDS) was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 12th to 13th February, 2023, as part of the 31st Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Policy Organs Meetings.
EASF Policy Organs Experts Working Group (EWG)
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) concluded, on 11 February 2023 at Skylight Hotel Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia, a three-day meeting of its Experts Working Group (EWG) Meeting as part of the 31st Policy Organs Meetings.
EASF celebrates its Professional Staff
The Director of Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa, led on the 12 January, 2023 at EASF Secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya, a ceremony to celebrate the new year as well as bid farewell to the outgoing staff and welcome the incoming staff.
“Reinvigorate the EASF Civilian Component”
EASF gathers its Civilian National Focal Points (CNFP) in Bujumbura, Burundi, from 5 th to 9 th December,2022 to “reinvigorate the Civilian Component.” The aim of this workshop is to familiarize the Member States CNFP with the planned civilian activities, in particular roster verification and their role in ensuringthat a functional civilian database is in place as well as to enhance integration and team work.
EASF verified Member States pledged capabilities
An Eastern African Standby Force delegation visited Kampala, from 27th to 29th November, for the verification of the Pledged Capabilities by the Republic of Uganda. The team was led by EASF Force Commander, Brig Gen Vincent Gatama, and its mission aims to confirm the commitment of Uganda to contribute, maintain and sustain the fully operational and multidimensional integrated standby force ready to respond to emerging crisis and threats in the region.
