Kenyan Elections - EASF Head of Elections Observer Mission Calls for Peaceful Elections

The Election Observer Mission's inauguration and the arrival statement release was held at the EASF Secretariat today, Monday 8th August 2022.

In his opening address, the Head of Mission, H.E Ambassador Claude Morel from Seychelles reminded the observers about the objectives of the EOM, to support the democratic process in Kenya and to build public confidence in the electoral process.  Ambassador Morel, reiterated his call on the candidates and political leaders to refrain from violence and to use the legal framework and dispute mechanisms in place to address disputes, especially in the post-electoral stage. Ambassador Morel made a special appeal to voters to exercise their civic duty in a peaceful manner and to maintain respect to tolerance.

On his part, the Advisor to the EASF-EOM, the former President of the Republic of Burundi, H.E. Ntibatunganya Sylvestre thanked the Kenya government for facilitating the EASF mission deployment. He also called on everyone to respect divergence of views. He called on the police and law enforcement agencies to maintain high ethical conduct and on polling officers to display a high level of integrity and impartiality in the conduct of their duties.

To conclude the event EASF observers took their oath and signed the observer’s pledge.
