Incoming EASF Force Commander Visits Secretariat Ahead of Assumption of Office

Nairobi, Kenya, 29 June 2026 - The Incoming Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Force Commander, Brig Stephen Maina Huria, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the EASF Secretariat in Nairobi ahead of officially assuming command at the EASF Force Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 2 July 2026.

The visit marked a key step in the leadership transition, providing Brig Huria with an opportunity to familiarize himself with the Secretariat's operations, strategic priorities, and ongoing programmes.

He was received by the EASF Director, Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga, and members of the Secretariat staff. During the visit, Brig Huria was introduced to staff and briefed on the Secretariat's mandate, major achievements, and priority areas requiring close coordination with the Force Headquarters.

Welcoming the incoming Force Commander, Brig Gen Rwivanga congratulated him on his appointment and emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between the Secretariat and the Force Headquarters in enhancing the EASF's operational readiness and ability to respond effectively to regional peace and security challenges.

The Director also highlighted key areas requiring strategic attention, including strengthening coordination among Member States, improving operational preparedness, expanding partnerships, supporting training and capacity-building programmes, and advancing implementation of the EASF Strategic Plan.

Brig Huria thanked the Secretariat for the warm reception and comprehensive briefing, reaffirming his commitment to working closely with the Secretariat, Member States, and partners to build on the organization's achievements and further strengthen its contribution to regional peace, security, and stability.

The visit forms part of the official transition process ahead of Brig Huria's assumption of office on 2 July 2026.
