Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Celebrates the International Day of Peace

The Eastern Africa Standby Force joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Day of Peace on Thursday, 21st September 2017 in Karen, Nairobi.

The day's events started with the traditional Peace Walk which was led by the Kenya Army Band along the streets of Karen up to St. Nicholas Children's Home; a home for orphaned children dedicated to giving these young people a fair chance and hope for the future.

The walk participants were received by Reverend Joy Kariuki who is an official at the Children's Home accompanied by other members of staff. She underscored the essence of maintaining peace as a key foundation for personal as well as community development. She thanked the guests for visiting the children on that important day and also for the donations they had brought with themselves.

Further events were carried out in the course of the day at the Secretariat. The key speakers were a representative of the Director of the International Peace Support Training Center (IPSTC), Brig. Patrick Nderitu and the EASF Head of Peace Operations' Department Brig. Albert Kendagor. IPSTC has been working closely with EASF in matters of personnel training and capacity development for many years.

The day's events were supported by the Nordic Advisory and Coordinating Staff (NACS), an umbrella body under which the Nordic Countries partner with EASF.
