Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

Indian Defence Attache Visits EASF

The Indian Defence Attache to Kenya Navy Captain Nitesh Garg paid a visit to the EASF Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi on 8th August 2019.

Welcoming Navy Captain Nitesh Garg at the Secretariat, the EASF Director, Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh expressed his gratitude to the Government and the people of India for their interest in ensuring the maintenance of a conflict-free Eastern Africa. Dr. Bouh reflected on the long journey the Standby Force has made ever since it was founded in 2004.

After a number of short briefings, lengthy discussions were held between the two leaders which focused on emerging crises in the region as well as various ways of mitigating these when they arise.

Captain Garg observed that there are a number of fields in which his country could cooperate with EASF in its endeavor to ensure the prevalence of peace in the region. India has vast experiences in handling maritime challenges; this is a critical support facet as EASF continues to boost its Maritime Cell.

The day's discussions created a launching pad to establish the relevant areas in which the two partners could cooperate.
