EASF Director Takes Part in 7th AU–EU Summit in Angola

This year’s summit carried special significance as it coincided with the 25th anniversary of the AU–EU Partnership. Participants described the milestone as an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of a quarter-century of collaboration and to reaffirm a joint commitment to a more strategic and equitable relationship. 

The Luanda gathering built on the outcomes of the 3rd AU–EU Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels in May 2025, and reviewed progress made since the Declaration of the 6th AU–EU Summit in February 2022. Leaders assessed ongoing initiatives across peace and security, governance, sustainable development, and economic transformation, while identifying areas requiring renewed focus. 

Amid increasing global instability and intersecting crises, the summit provided a platform to deepen political dialogue and accelerate collective action. Delegates emphasized the importance of aligning future cooperation with the AU’s Agenda 2063 framework and stressed the need for resilient partnerships capable of addressing emerging challenges. 

Brigadier (Rtd) Njema’s participation underscored the EASF’s role in regional peace and security efforts. His engagement in the discussions was described as constructive, offering insights on strengthening conflict-prevention mechanisms and mobilizing international support for Africa’s broader transformation agenda. 

The Director was accompanied by a delegation comprising the EASF Head of Administration and Finance, Mr. Kamaladini Souef, and the AU/EASF Liaison Officer, Colonel (Rtd) Getahun Abebe Gabre. Their presence reinforced the organization’s commitment to contributing to continental and intercontinental security cooperation.
