FTX 2017 Comes to an End in Port Sudan
The colorful closing ceremony was attended by dignitaries and official representatives from all 10 EASF Member States who were warmly received in the Exercise area by the EASF Director, Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh.
The Guest of Honor during the closing ceremony was the Sudan Minister for Defence, Lt. Gen. Awad Mohamed bin Oaf.
FTX 2017 was a multi-national/multi-dimensional exercise comprising 1029 participants from military, police and civilian backgrounds all working under one roof.
EASF Director Dr. Bouh was awarded the Commander of the Order of the Two Niles medal, delivered from the President of the Sudan, for his exemplary leadership during FTX 2017. He also received a Cetificate of Outstanding Performance from the Sudan Minister for Defence, Lt. Gen. Awad Mohamed bin Oaf
All members of management received awards of honor from the Government of the Sudan.
Mashariki Salaam II was designed to validate gains made as well as identify gaps in the continued development of EASF. The FTX replicated, as far as possible, an EASF Mission deployment in which Multi-Dimensional and Multi-National force elements from all EASF Member States could be deployed in on the ground.
FTX 2017 had been set in the background of a fictional African country entangled in civil and military strife with neither functioning systems nor authorities. The crisis was further compounded by widespread genocide and total anarchy. It was in light of this environment that EASF was mandated to intervene and roll out appropriate Peace Support Operations in carefully controlled steps in the troubled country finally culminating in national elections.
