EASF Day Seychelles
The EASF Day 2016 Seychelles was held on Saturday the 12th March 2016 in the capital city, Victoria.
The Defence Attache in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Colonel George Adeline, who is also the Chairman of the EASF Experts' Working Group,
welcomed the participants to this important event; an event being held on the Archipelago's soil for the first time in it's history.
In his opening remarks, the EASF Director, Amb. Issmail Chanfi thanked the people and the Government of Seychelles for hosting this important day in EASF Calender of Events 2016. He outlined the achievements of EASF up to date. EASF is the most integrated Standby Force on the African Continent, he said. It's 10 Member States have contributed enormously in all aspects ever since its inception in order to bring the organization where it is today. He thanked the EASF Policy Organs, Member States, EASF Staff, Friends and Partners of EASF for supporting EASF in all its endeavours.
The Guest of Honor, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport of the Republic of Seychelles Mr. Joel Morgan, explained to the participants the importance of peace building in Eastern Africa as well as in Africa and the world at large. Peace is a catalyst for development; conflicts usually have a potential to spill over geographical borders which means that peace building must then be treated as a collective effort, he said. Under the African Peace and Security Architechture (APSA) EASF is proving to be one of the key leaders in peace building on the continent. He finally thanked the EASF Member States for making EASF a successful organization.
Among other speakers included the EASF Head of Liaison, the EASF Head of Political Department, Indian Military Advisor to Seychelles Peoples' Defence Forces (SPDF) and a Civil Society representative from Children's Foundation.
The event was also graced by the President of the Seychelles Court of Appeal Mr. Francis McGregor, the CDF of Seychelles, Brigadier Leopold Payete, the Advisor to the President of Seychelles Dr Steve Fanny, Members of Diplomatic Corps, Members of the National Assembly and the Commisioner of Police among others.
