German Delegation Visits EASF Secretariat

A delegation from the German Defence Staff College paid a study visit to the Eastern Africa Standby Force Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi on 30 March 2022.

The delegation, led by Col Jancke, was received at the Secretariat by the EASF Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa together with other senior members of the management, including the Civilian and Police advisors. The Chairperson of Friends of EASF, Col Jens Lindvig also attended the event.

The EASF PLANELM Joint Chief of Staff made a brief presentation to the delegates about EASF and the Eastern Africa region. During the briefings, the visitors were given an elaborate insight into the journey of EASF since its inception back in 2004. It was highlighted that the regional peace-keeper attained its Full Operational Capability (FOC) in December 2014 and has since then, among others, deployed a considerable number of Election Observation Missions in the Eastern Africa region.

The delegates asked a number of questions about EASF on related issues including the mission mandating process and experience in Peace Support Missions. The EASF Management provided elaborate answers. It was further explained that EASF has continued to maintain and enhance its FOC through capacity building in the form of trainings and exercises.
