Official Launching of the EASF-EOM to Somalia
EASF Election Observer Mission to the Federal Republic of Somalia was launched on 14th May, 2022 in Mogadishu, Somalia. The Presidential election is fundamental to the political situation in the Federal Republic of Somalia where the presidential election was delayed by 15 months. The Speaker of the recently elected Parliament has confirmed that voting will take place on 15th May as scheduled.
After the meeting with the Speaker of Somali Parliament Hon. Adan Mohamed Noor (Madoobe) the EASF-EOM met with the Force Commander of the AU Mission (ATMIS) Gen. Ndegeya. The Head of Mission, Mr. Elrayes Ahmed Ali Mozamil has reiterated EASF’s commitment to peace and stability in the Region.
The methodology of the Mission is resolutely inscribed in the structural framework of principles elaborated in key provisions of international instruments notably the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (2012), the OAU/AU Declaration on the Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa, (2002), the AU Guidelines for Election Observation and Monitoring Missions (2002), and the United Nations Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation (2005). The Mission also takes into consideration regional instruments and particularly the national legal framework for the conduct of elections. In line with its mandate, the EASF-EOM is expected to issue a preliminary statement on the voting process on Monday 16th May, 2022.
