The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) concluded today, 10 June 2022, its After Action Review (AAR) of the Command Post Exercise, Codenamed ‘MASHARIHI SALAAM III’, in Victoria, Seychelles.

The Guest of Honor at the Closing Ceremony was Mr. Steve Laland, the Director General of Regional Affairs with the Ministry of Affairs. In his closing remarks, the guest of honor commended the EASF for planning, organizing and conducting the AAR which would help EASF draw lessons from the conduct of CPX-2022. He urged the Secretariat to consider the strengths observed and the weaknesses identified for better planning of future exercises.

The PLANELM Joint Chief of Staff (JCOS) Brig Gen (PSC) Dr. Osman Abbas also delivered remarks on behalf of the Director of EASF, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Feyissa. He thanked the Member States for sending personnel who took part in the Exercise, and for all their support along the way. The JCOS thanked the participants for their dedications in the deliberations during the last four days. He also commended the Host Nation, the Seychelles, for the hospitality accorded to the participants.

The purpose of the AAR was to assess how CPX-2022 was conducted, by allowing the planners and the exercise participants to reflect on what happened, in a bid to draw lessons from it, identify gaps and design an action plan for the future management of the EASF, in order to be able to refine EASF’s conceptual documents. The AAR was underway in Victoria, Seychelles since 6 June 2022.
