Eastern Africa Standby Force in Seychelles for the CSO Peace Seminar
The EASF in partnership with the Government of Seychelles and the National Platform for Civil Society (CEPS) joined forces in organizing a three-day seminar targeting youth leaders from various structures including youth NGOs. The Seminar seeks to sensitize young people on the essence of maintaining peace in the Eastern Africa Region as well as on the entire African continent.
The main objective of the seminar is to dissuade the youth from violent actions and facilitate their meaningful participation in all spectrums of peace and security in the country.
Officially opening the Youth for Peace seminar was the Principal Secretary of Youth Mr. Ralph Jean Louis, from the Government and Mr Alvin Laurence from the Civil Society Platform. The opening ceremony was also attended by the EASF Director Brig (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema who emphasized the need for youth involvement in peace promotion during his opening address. Other officials from the Government, the National Youth Council and other Ministries attended the opening ceremony. Youth delegates from 8 other countries, all Member States of EASF are attending the seminar which is being held at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Hotel.
After the opening ceremony, the Director paid a courtesy call to the Commissioner of Seychelles Police, Ted Barbe.
