EASF Conducts Integrated Mission Planning Course

The Eastern Africa Standby Force started a two week Integrated Mission Planning Course (IMPC) on 21st August 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya.

As laid down in the organization's activity Plan 2017, EASF underscores this course as part of the essential pre –exercise training activity for the Field Training Exercise 2017 (FTX 17) MASHIRIKI SALAAMA II that will be conducted in the Republic of The Sudan in November 2017.

The aim of the course is to develop the Planning and Operational Capability of the pledged EASF Mission Headquarters' Staff in order to execute complex Peace Support Operations (PSOs).

During the opening ceremony, the Director of EASF, Dr Abdillahi Omar Bouh expressed his gratitude to EASF Member States for availing personnel to participate in the IMPC. Director applauded the Member States' clear demonstration of their commitment to the core pillars of capacity development activities.

Dr. Bouh further emphasized that the IMPC constitutes a pre-deployment training which immensely contributes to the participants' understanding of Mission Headquarters' structures and functions. This training has a direct impact on Force Generation, Planning, Management and Force Recovery.

The course has 70 trainees from EASF Member states, namely, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda. Trainees include EASF members of staff from the Planning Element, the Force Commander, the Chief of Staff Logistics' Base and AU Liaison Officer.
