EASF Director Meets the President of the Union of Comoros

The President of the Union of Comoros, HE Azali Assoumani had an audience, on 26^th April, 2023 at Beit-Salam Palace, with the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa, accompanied by the Force Commander, Brig Gen Vincent Gatama.

EASF Delegation congratulated HE President Azali on his election as Chairperson of the African Union Assembly of Heads of States and Governments for the year 2023. The Director briefed the Head of State on the security situation in the region and the readiness of the EASF to deliver on its mandate.

President Azali highlighted the importance of the EASF as a regional peace and security mechanism and has reaffirmed the unfailing support of the Union of the Comoros to the organization to fully assume its mission.

The Head of State intends to strengthen regional cooperation on peace and security challenges, including through the operationalization of the EASF. He also recalled the importance given by the Comoros to maritime issues in view of the numerous threats to the archipelago.

On behalf of the Management, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa reiterated EASF’s appreciation for the commitment of the Comorian officials in the implementation of the EASF vision. Earlier on 25^th April, EASF Delegation paid a Courtesy Call to the Minister of President Cabinet in charge of Defense, Hon Youssoufa Mohamed Ali, who chaired the EASF Policy Organs in the 2020. Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa commended the leadership and guidance, as well as the commitment of the Chief of Defence Staff of the National Development Army (AND), Brig Gen Youssouf Idjihadi.
