Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

Ongoing Training Course for Military Officers at Rwanda Peace Academy

Musanze, Rwanda – The Force Headquarters Staff Officers Training of Trainers (FHQ SO ToT) Course commenced on August 26, 2024, at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) and will run until September 6. Funded by the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), the course is a collaborative effort between RPA and the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF).

The two-week program was officially inaugurated by General Mubarakh Muganga, Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF). Attendees included EASF Force Commander Brig Gen Getachew Ali Mohamed and RPA Director Colonel (Rtd) Jill Rutaremara.

In his opening remarks, General Muganga emphasized the importance of military staff officers understanding their roles, particularly in the context of African conflicts and the AU/EASF decision-making processes. He stated that the course aims to enhance officers' proficiency in staff duties, enabling them to perform effectively in Peace Support Operations (PSOs).

A total of 23 military personnel from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Uganda, and the EASF Headquarters are participating in this vital training initiative, designed to prepare future trainers for upcoming PSO deployments.
