Ethiopia Election, Certified Results Out

The official certified results of the 6th general election of Ethiopia were announced on Saturday 10th July in Addis Ababa. The Eastern Africa Standby Force Election Observer Mission (EOM) was deployed in six regions and city administrations to observe polling which took place on 21st June, 2021.

The Deputy Head of Mission, Ms. Lina Hoareau and two EASF observers were present at the official announcement of the certified results. Ethiopia’s governing Prosperity Party has won most seats in the country’s parliamentary election, with 410 of 436 parliamentary seats, election board deputy chairperson Woubshet Ayele announced in the capital, Addis Ababa. Chairperson Birtukan Mideksa said the board had delivered a credible election. Voting in the Harar and Somali regions has meanwhile been delayed until September due to logistics’ short comings.

In its preliminary statement issued on 22nd June, 2021, the EASF EOM concluded that the 6th general election was conducted in calm and peaceful manner, with a high voter turnout of more than 90 percent of the more than 37 million people who had been registered to vote.
