EASF Director Condemns Mogadishu Terror Attacks
The Director of EASF Dr Abdillahi Omar Bouh, condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attacks that took place on 14th October 2017 targeting civilians in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Dr Bouh expressed his deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people, the Government of Somalia and wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
Dr Bouh expressed the Eastern Africa Standby Force’s solidarity with the Government and people of Somalia, at this particularly challenging time. The Director of EASF reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to the region and international peace and security.
He underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of Somalia.
The Director of EASF reaffirmed the organization’s strong unity with Somali Government in the wake of this terrorist attack occurring in a period when significant progress has been achieved to ensure the stability of the country and its people. He also appealed to the international community to strengthen its commitment to ensure a more coordinated, robust and international support to Somalia in its war to defeat terrorists killing innocent people in the country.
Dr Bouh reiterated the need for all Eastern Africa Member States and international communities to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law, including international human rights law, international refugee law and international humanitarian law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
