Eastern Africa Standby Force Celebrates International Women’s Day, Promotes Gender Equality and Women’s Role in Peacebuilding
Friday, 7 March 2025 – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) marked International Women’s Day at its Structures in Kenya and Addis Ababa, focusing on the promotion of women’s rights and their active involvement in peace processes. This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, underscored the importance of gender equality and the empowerment of women globally.
Celebrating Women's Contributions: Past, Present, and Future
How promising it is to be a woman in the 21st century—a time when women's voices and actions are finally being recognized. We now live in an era where women have a seat at the table. For far too long, women's voices went unheard, and their contributions overlooked. We are gradually transitioning from a time when women were seen as objects—meant to be seen, not heard—to an era where their full potential is acknowledged.
Celebrating Women's Strength and Resilience
On International Women's Day, let's honor the incredible strength, resilience, and contributions of women across the globe. Today, we celebrate the women who continue to break barriers, overcome challenges, and inspire change. Let’s continue to empower and support women in every field, ensuring that the path for future generations is filled with opportunities and equality.
“Women as Pillars of Peace: A Tribute for International Women’s Day 2025”
The UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) recognises the importance of women in peace and security, calling for increased participation in conflict prevention, peace negotiations, and post-conflict reconstruction. As we celebrate International Women's Day 2025 with the theme “For all women and girls: Rights. Equity. Empowerment #Accelerate Action,” it is vital to recognize the significant contributions of women in fostering peace during times of conflict and adversity. Women often bear the brunt of war, taking on roles as caregivers, rebuilders, and advocates for social justice. Though frequently marginalized, their voices are essential for sustainable peace, emphasizing empathy and community cohesion.
BEAUTY IN THE FORCES
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we reflect on the remarkable achievements of women everywhere, and specifically today, I want to honor the strength, courage, and beauty of the women who serve in the military. When we think of beauty, society often defines it through narrow lenses—glamour, appearances, or softness. But true beauty is so much more. It’s not just about what we see on the surface; it’s about strength, resilience, determination, and the way one carries themselves through the trials of life. It’s the beauty of character, bravery, and sacrifice. And that is the essence of the women who wear the uniform of our military.
Celebrating the Strength and Voice of Women
A woman with a voice is by definition a strong woman. I pray that we all find our voices in an ever so difficult world. In the words of Ada Lovelace (1815–1852) ‘Here’s to strong women; may we know them, may we be them; may we raise them’. Today and Always.
