Finnish Delegation’s Courtesy Call at EASF Secretariat
H.E Ambassador Erik Lundberg the Head of Mission, Embassy of Finland, accompanied by the former Minister for Defence of Finland, Elisabeth Rehn and other experts visited the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya on 22nd October 2018.
The aim of the visit was to discuss the major achievements and the future plans of the EASF.
The Director of EASF Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh welcomed the delegation and proceeded by sharing the achievements of EASF in terms of building regional capacity to ensure the readiness of the Forces to deploy at any time when and if the need arises.
Dr. Bouh appreciated the endless support of Finland in terms of financial, technical and logistical capacities since 2009. “The support by Finland and other Nordic countries played a huge role in taking EASF forward and being in the right track to full fill its mandate” he added.
The Head of Mission, Ambassador Erik Lundberg said, ‘’we are happy with what EASF has achieved since it was established as regional mechanism and we also observed from the presentation how prepared EASF is towards full fill its mandate.”
Amb. Lundberg noted the strong bond and cooperation between EASF and Finland and the continuous regional capacity building with the main focus on civil societies including civilian and other components of EASF.
He expressed his happiness, on the positive achievements of the organization and its readiness to deploy at any time. The Ambassador also expressed his country's great willingness to support EASF in the future.
The Head of Peace Operations Department Brig. Albert Kendagor made a presentation on the general overview and main achievements of the organization.
The Head of Mission, Amb. Erik Lundberg, was accompanied by eight members of the delegation.
