Integrated Mission Support – Training of Trainers, at EASF Logistics Training Centre, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 7-15th November 2022

The first Integrated Mission Support – Training of Trainers was officially launched on Monday 7th November 2022.

The opening ceremony was held at the EASF Logistics Base in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The course was coordinated by the civilian component of the EASF PLANELM Element. Brig. Gen. Vincent Gatama, Force Commander of EASF Logistics Base was the Guest of Honour and made the official launching for the training on behalf of the EASF Director. In attendance was the Chief of Staff of the Logistics Base, Col. Ahmed Essa Ahmed and LTC Commandant of the Logistics Training Centre, Col. Firmin Simbananiye. In his opening remarks the Force Commander made emphasis on the efforts of the EASF “to keep the peace and security in the region and to “keep in mind that we need to be continuously building capacity” in differing fields in readiness for conflicting situations in the region and on the African continent. The EASF Head of Civilian, Dr. Leah N. Barasa who was represented by the Training, Planning and Evaluation Officer Ms. Octavia M. Rose had encouraging words for the participants whose “inspiration to support the EASF vision of contributing to regional and continental peace, security, stability and enhance regional integration and devotion” is a reassuring “source of courage.”

The lead facilitator for the Integrated Mission Support – Training of Trainers Course, Col. Billy Atwoki Winter from the African Union Commission (AUC) presented an overview of the course and set the starting point for the training. The aim of this course is to equip participants with essential knowledge, skills and attitudes required for effective planning, coordination and successful delivery of mission support to integrated multidimensional PSOs, in accordance with AU policies and doctrine.

The IMS TOT will be held over two-weeks and will come to an end on Wednesday 15th November 2022. The total number of participants selected for this course are 21 representing nine out of ten Member States.
