EASF Council of Ministers of Defense and Security Concludes 36th Ordinary Session in Kampala
Kampala, Uganda, 14 August 2026 – The 36th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of Defense and Security of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) concluded today in Kampala, Uganda, with Member States reaffirming their commitment to strengthening regional peace, security and stability and signing the final report of the session.

Kampala, Uganda – 13 August 2026 – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Committee of Chiefs of Defence and Security (EACDS) has concluded its deliberations in Kampala, Uganda, as part of the 36th EASF Policy Organs Meetings, with Member States reaffirming their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and advancing peace and security in Eastern Africa.
President Museveni Receives EASF Director at State House, Entebbe
ENTEBBE, Uganda, 13 August 2026- President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni received the Director of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), Brig. Gen. Ronald Rwivanga, at State House, Entebbe, on 13 August 2026.
The meeting took place on the margins of the 36th EASF Ordinary Policy Organs Meetings being held in Kampala.
Brig. Gen. Rwivanga briefed the President on EASF activities and ongoing efforts to strengthen the region’s peace and security architecture.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, 28 July 2026- The Director of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), Brig. Gen. Ronald Rwivanga, is participating in the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, alongside the Head of Policy, Plans and Development (HPOD) and the Executive Assistant to the Director. The session is being held from 27 to 28 July 2026.
Denmark Hands Over Vehicles and Equipment to EASF in Nairobi as Part of Exit Strategy
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) today received two vehicles and a range of Rapid Deployment Kits from the Embassy of Denmark during a handover ceremony held at the EASF Secretariat in Nairobi. The transfer forms part of the Embassy of Denmark’s Midterm Exit Strategy under its ongoing partnership with the EASF, as preparations continue for the conclusion of Denmark’s support in December 2026.
EASF Holds Handover Ceremony for Incoming Force Commander
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Force Headquarters in Addis Ababa has officially conducted a handover/takeover ceremony marking the transition of the Office of the Force Commander from Brigadier General Getachew Mohammad to Brigadier General Stephen Huria.
Brig. Gen. Getachew, who has served as Force Commander since 2023, expressed his sincere appreciation to the EASF leadership, staff, and the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for the support and cooperation accorded to him during his tenure.
Incoming EASF Force Commander Visits Secretariat Ahead of Assumption of Office
Nairobi, Kenya, 29 June 2026 - The Incoming Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Force Commander, Brig Stephen Maina Huria, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the EASF Secretariat in Nairobi ahead of officially assuming command at the EASF Force Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 2 July 2026.
