Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

18th Extra Ordinary Session of the Committee of the Eastern Africa Chiefs of Defence Staff

A committee of the Eastern Africa Chiefs of Defence Staff was convened on 30th March, 2022 in Nairobi, Kenya at the sidelines of the Command Post Exercise 2022 code named “Mashariki Salaam III” which is scheduled to culminate in Distinguished Visitors Day which will thereafter be followed by a closing ceremony on 31st March 2022.

All Chiefs of Defence Staff from EASF's Member States were invited to attend the closing ceremony.

The session of the Extra Ordinary Meeting was chaired by Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, the Chief of the Ethiopian National Defence, Lt Gen Francis O Ogolla, the Vice Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces as Vice Chairperson and Col Simon Dine, the Chief of Staff of Seychelles People’s Defence Forces as the Rapporteur. The Session was also attended by Chiefs of Defence/Representatives from the Republic of Burundi, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda.

The main agenda of the Extra Ordinary Meeting was to be apprised of the current status of EASF as well as conduct interviews for the Head of Peace Operations' Department which, in accordance with the approved EASF Rational Matrix, is slated for the Republic of Burundi.
