Ongoing FPU Commanders Course at the Djibouti National Gendarmerie School
The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) has launched its ongoing Formed Police Unit (FPU) Commanders Course at the Djibouti National Gendarmerie School, running from 24 November to 5 December 2025. The training brings together 22 senior officers from EASF Member States to strengthen leadership, coordination and operational readiness for future peace support missions.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Guest of honor, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Djibouti National Gendarmerie, Ali Mohamed Roble, welcomed participants and emphasized the course’s importance in enhancing the professionalism and preparedness of FPUs deployed in African Union–mandated peace operations. He highlighted the vital role FPUs play in protecting civilians, supporting mission staff and maintaining order in complex environments. Roble praised the African Union’s African Peace and Security Architecture for funding the program and commended the EASF Secretariat and trainers for their commitment.
EASF Head of Police Component, CP Ali Said Bacar, also addressed the participants, expressing gratitude to the Government of Djibouti and the National Gendarmerie for hosting the course. He encouraged officers to share experiences and take full advantage of the intensive 10-day training, which covers logistics, command and control, human rights and gender considerations. CP. Bacar reaffirmed EASF’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and enhancing the capabilities of police units across Eastern Africa.
