Official Opening of EASF Logistics Training Center

The EASF Logistics Training Centre was officially opened on Monday, 29th September 2014.

The Centre is a facility was set up to to meet the logistical requirements in preparation for Full Operational Capability (FOC) in December 2014 and thereafter, deployment of the regional Force in peace-keeping missions.

In his opening speech, Hon Siraj Fegesa, Minister of Defence of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, who was the chief guest, noted that the occasion marked a very important milestone for the region and a landmark foundation for building a logistics capacity for EASF Member States.  He recognized the importance of the event as one of the key indicators of attainment of Full Operational Capability (FOC) for EASF and reiterated the commitment of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to work with EASF Member States and the entire continent in pursuit of lasting peace, security and development in the continent.

Amb Issimail Chanfi, Director of EASF Secretariat, said the facility is a significant step that will bring to reality a concept which has been worked on since 2011 and will be instrumental in developing the center for EASF's deployment.  "Its  existence will ensure that the logistical requirements are met", he added.

The Logistics Centre is one of the four structures of EASF.  The Brigade Headquarters is also based in based in Addis Ababa, while the Secretariat and the Planning Element are in Nairobi, Kenya.
