Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Delegation Calls on Russian Ambassador to Kenya

Category: News

The Director of EASF, Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh led a delegation of EASF Senior Members of Staff during a courtesy call on the Russian Ambassador to Kenya at the Embassy in Nairobi on 28th February 2019.

The delegation was received at the Embassy by Amb. Dmitry Maksimychev, who was accompanied by the Embassy's Counsellor Mr. Dmitry Makarov.

Dr. Bouh informed Amb. Maksimychev about the diverse activities the regional peacekeeper has been undertaking in the past as well as current ones in line with the EASF Calendar of Activities for the year 2019. The talks centered on possible areas of cooperation between the Russian Federation and EASF especially in maintaining EASF's critical mass through capacity building. This priority area ensures that the Standby Force can be able to respond to any crisis in the region and beyond if tasked to do so by the African Union at all times.

The maintenance of such capabilities across all EASF ten Member States requires enormous human and financial resources; so far, partners as well as EASF Member States have been able to support the maintenance and enhancement of the Full Operational Capabilty (FOC) acquired by the Standby Force in December 2014.

During the meeting, the Dr. Bouh was accompanied by the EASF Head of Administration and Finance Col. Leterbrahn Kahsay, the Internal Auditor Col. Acc. Dr. Mohammed Shumo and the Military Assistant to the Director, Lt. Col. C. Onyango.
