Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Director Pays Sudanese Ambassador a Courtesy Call

Category: News

The EASF Director Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh paid a courtesy call to the Sudanese Ambassador to Kenya, Amb. Gariballa Khidir Ali, who is also the Permanent Representative to all UN Offices in Nairobi, Kenya on 27th June 2019.

The two leaders held lengthy discussions on matters relating to the further development of the Standby Force as well as ongoing peace support initiatives in the Eastern Africa region.

Now that EASF has been placed by the African Union as the Continental Standby Force with effect from July 1st to December 31st 2019, it is important to ensure that EASF Member States are equally informed of salient issues in the region. Many EASF Member States have pledged diverse capacities to EASF, which the could be deployed in case African Union mandates the Standby Force to do the same during the alert period.

The Republic of the Sudan has hosted two important EASF's exercises in the past, namely; Command Post Exercise (CPX) 2011 in Khartoum and Field Training Exercise (FTX) 2017 in Gebeit region of the Red Sea State.
