Policy Organs Meetings - August 2013

EASF conducted Policy Organs Meetings in August 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya.

These meetings were conducted in three sessions.  Experts Working Group (EWG) meeting took place from 5th – 7th August 2013.  Here, EASF Experts brainstormed on issues regarding the current EASF structures and strategies to sustain EASF beyond 2015 among other issues. 

The outcome of these discussions was a report which was presented to the Eastern Africa Committee of Defence and Security (EACDS) for discussion in the second session of the meetings which formed the Fourteenth Ordinary Session of the Eastern Africa Committee of Defence and Security (EACDS) from 14th to 15th August 2013. In this session, the Director of EASFCOM presented the progress report for EASF activities and on implementation of Council Decisions.  All EASF Member States were represented.

The last part of the Policy Organs Meetings was the Fifteenth Session of the Council of Ministers of Defence and Security of the Eastern Africa Region.    Here, the Ministers of Defence and Security discussed the progress report presented by the Director, EASFCOM and the EACDS.  The Ministers made key final decisions on the issues presented by Experts and EACDS meetings.  The Meeting was chaired by Ambassador Raychelle Omamo, Chair to Council of Ministers of Defence of Eastern Africa and Minister for Defence for Kenya.
