EASF Flags Off its EOM to Kenya
Having completed its preparation to observe the 2022 Kenya Elections, the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) flagged off its Election Observer Mission (EOM) to the Republic of Kenya today, 5 July 2022, at the Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi.
The EASF Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa, officiated the flagging off ceremony. He handed over the mission plan to the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Kedir Ababulgu Ali, who received the plan and the EASF flag on behalf of the Head of Mission.
In his remarks at the ceremony, the director said that EASF is contributing to peace and security of the region in a number of ways, including conflict prevention activities. He explained, “One of our conflict prevention approaches is the promotion of democracy and good governance through deployment of election observer missions.” He said that
EASF EOM to Kenya is a key activity that is part of EASF’s planned activities. The director expressed his confidence that the observers would carry out the task entrusted to them with the highest level of professionalism and urged them to do their level best to witness the conduct of the election objectively, as per the standards and code of
conduct.
EASF staff and management including the head of Peace Operations Department as well as heads of Components have been in attendance at the flagging off ceremony.
