EASF Meets the Media

The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) met with journalists and news editors from various media houses at a special breakfast meeting held at the Serena, Hotel in Nairobi on 17th September 2018.

This was an opportunity for EASF to discuss with the news editors the role of the EASF and its endeavour in promoting peace in the region of East Africa and afar. The Director of the EASF Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh greeted the journalists and news editors and then proceeded in sharing the upcoming events to commemorate the International Day of Peace as well as the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It was also a chance for those from the media to share about their efforts in bringing the message of peace to their audiences.

Following the meeting all journalists and news editors were invited to a press conference being organized by the EASF on Thursday 20th September and the subsequent peace walk the next day on the 21st September in Karen as part of this year’s commemoration of the International Day of Peace and the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which is an international instrument signed by all EASF Member States.
 
The theme for this year’s peace day is “The Right to Peace - The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70” The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a milestone document in the history of human rights. Drafted by representatives from different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10th December 1948 as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.
