EASF Conducts Tree Planting in Ethiopia

Youth leaders from EASF Members States as well as various leaders of youth and civil society organizations from Ethiopia braved the rainy and cold weather of Addis Ababa to plant trees on 14 July 2022. The tree planting activity was conducted at Gulele Botanic Garden, located in Addis Ababa.

The tree planting activity was launched by H.E. Dr. Ergoge Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. In her address, the minister thanked EASF management and staff for planning to conduct the activity in Ethiopia. She reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to environmental protection through the Green Legacy Program. She explained that Ethiopia is expanding the program to its neighbors in eastern Africa and highlighted the role that EASF can play in that regard. Brig Gen Kabisa Domitien, head of peace Operations Department of EASF addressed the participants on behalf the director Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa. He expressed his appreciation to the Government Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for the commitment and concerted efforts it has been exerting in environmental protection.

The tree planting event was part of EASF’s Youth for Peace activity that was underway in Addis Ababa from 13 to 14 July 2022. The activity included a peace seminar on the first day, and a cultural program as part of the closing program.
