Council of Ministers for Defence and Security Meeting Held in Khartoum

The 25th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers for Defence and Security took place on the 17th December 2018, in Khartoum, in the Republic of the Sudan.

The Meeting was officially opened by Hon. Mutaz Musa, the Prime Minister of the Republic of the Sudan. During his opening statement, the Guest of Honour noted that the Eastern Africa region is making good progress in building bridges and democracy in its quest for lasting peace, security and stability. These efforts will not only create a more conducive environment for the advancement of it's people, but also secure the fulfillment of their long cherished dream of development and well-being.
 
The Prime Minister, however, noted that EASF must be commended for the efforts so far made in the past few years towards putting a regional Force together and sustaining the operational readiness.  EASF needs all the support necessary to strengthen its capacity in different areas. "During this meeting, I believe you will go a long way in identifying some of the critical areas in which EASF needs more support", the Guest Honour added.

The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers, Hon. Bright Rwamirama, who is the Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, took note of the historical relations of EASF Member States who share a lot of common interests, values and goals. The instrumental roles that the countries play on the regional and continental arena, is one that advances the cause of unity of Africa in building the desired future.

The Director EASF, Dr Abdillahi Omar Bouh welcomed all distinguished delegates to the 25th Ordinary Policy Organs Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Defense and Security of the Eastern Africa region.

Dr. Bouh said, four years after attaining Full Operational Capability (FOC), EASF continues to enhance its force and has increased its focus on conflict prevention with the continued enhancement of the organizational Early Warning Systems. This will include the development of the Panel of the Wise for involvement in mediation and negotiation. In addition, EASF plans to develop a Maritime Coordination Center (MCC) which is in its initial stages of formation.
 
Dr. Bouh conveyed his gratitude to the African Union Commission (AUC), Friends of EASF and Partners for participation in EASF activities in areas of technical, logistical and financial support over the years.
