EASF Celebrates the World International Day of Peace 2016

CS Amb. Raychelle Omamo

The Eastern Africa Standby Force joined the rest of the world on 21st September 2016 to celebrate the World International Day of Peace at the EASF Secretariat Headquarters in Karen, Nairobi. The event

was graced by Ambassador Raychelle Omamo, the Cabinet Secretary for Defence of the Republic of Kenya. The theme of the day was “Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.”

The event signified the importance that EASF and its Member States attach to matters of peace and security now and in the future. The event brought together senior government officials, county government officials, academicians, peace practitioners,  civil society, university students, school pupils, journalists, members of the Diplomatic Corps and various other stakeholders who shared information about the development of EASF and other peace initiatives in the region.

The day kicked off with a symbolic Peace Walk to demonstrate solidarity and support for peace on the continent of Africa; this was followed by donations to the ACK Good Samaritan Children’s Home in Karen. As a key player in peace and security and as an organisation which cares for the well-being of the people of Eastern Africa, EASF puts a lot of weight in its Institutional Social Responsibility. Finally, the participants assembled for a formal session at the EASF Secretariat Headquarters.
