Policy Organs' Meetings: Experts Working Group Meeting Commences

The Eastern African Standby Force's 29th Ordinary Session of Policy Organs' Meetings started with a virtual conference of the Experts Working Group (EWG) which is being coordinated from the Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi on 4th October 2021.

In his keynote speech, the Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa welcomed the participants to the meeting and thanked EASF Member States for availing highly qualified subject matter experts to deliberate on matters put forward for discussion by the top decision making organs of the Standby Force. "The meeting is therefore expected to solely review, deliberate and enrich the documents which are very significant to strengthen our efforts to discharge our mandate, and improve, the support tools for our organization’s smooth operation and administrative activities.", Brig Gen Fayisa said.
 
The Director further assured the EWG that the Secretariat had, by and large, implemented the decisions of the last Policy Organs' Meetings despite a number of challenges especially those related to the global COVID-19 pandemic. He outlined various milestones which EASF has achieved in terms of increased cooperation with stakeholders, external visibility and capacity building.  

Brig Gen Faysa acknowledged the funding, technical and logistic support from the Friends of EASF especially the Chairperson of the Friends, Colonel Joern Rasmussen, for his special contributions.
