Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF Rolls Out a ToT Course on Child Protection

The Eastern African Standby Force launched a Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop on Child Protection at the Rwanda Peace Academy on Monday 4th September 2017. The one-week training comes to an end on Friday 8th September.

The overall goal of the training is to ensure that African peace support architecture has enhanced capacity to prevent and respond to violence against children. In this respect, Save the Children works with existing stakeholders within the AU, Regional Bodies and Regional Mechanisms in East and West Africa, as well as National Armed Forces focusing on the major troop contributing countries.

In course of the training, the team will be able to identify and develop a pool of master trainers (training experts) with the right knowledge, skill sets and attitudes in Child Rights issues in armed and post-conflict situations able to embed and roll out the Child Protection Toolkit within their scheduled training programmes.

The course comprises 30 Trainers from all EASF Member States including 4 from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and 1 from Southern Africa Development Community (SADC). All three components of EASF i.e. Police, Civilian and Military are also represented.
