Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

AU Examines APSA Programme Implementation Progress

Category: News

The African Union is conducting a Monitoring and Evaluation exercise in regard to the progress of the implementation of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) by the EASF Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi on 10th and 11th May 2018.

The AU Team was received at the Secretariat by the EASF Director Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh, accompanied by the Head of Peace Operations Department Brigadier Albert Kendagor and other senior members of staff.

The APSA framework constitutes three central instruments, namely; conflict prevention, conflict management and peace building. The scope of APSA activities covers the African Union (AU), the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and Regional Mechanism (RMs).

In order to ensure that earmarked targets are archived in accordance with the set time-lines, AU's APSA Project Management Team engages RECs and RMs at least once a year. This engagement provides an avenue for analyzing any deviations from the strategic road-map so that necessary measures to correct such anomalies can be rolled out accordingly.
