Youth for Peace and Environmental Protection Seminar Kicks Off in Addis Ababa

The Eastern Africa Standby Force started “Youth for Peace and Environmental Protection Seminar” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 6th of July 2021.

The Guest of Honor from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, who is also the Minister of Peace, Her Excellency Mufariat Kamil, officially opened the seminar.

In her opening remarks, the Minister thanked the Eastern Africa Standby Force and all the youth leaders from Member States for coming to Ethiopia and be part of this important seminar.
The Minister said, “Africa has potential youth power that can change the image of Africa. Africa is a power house of youth. What is needed from us is addressing the mechanism of changing this potential youth power in to meaningful agent of peace and security.” She also appreciated the initiative that EASF is engaging youth in activities that advocate for peace and environmental protection.
 
The Minister added, “The people of Eastern Africa nations need to be sensitized and mobilized through various initiatives that advocate for peace and environmental protection. To realize this, cooperation among our states in the Eastern Africa region is vital. As a people of Africa, we have shared values and ethos that bind us together. We also have shared objectives, goals, and vision! We, too, have a shared history. At the same time, we also have common threats to peace and environment.” She added EASF should maximize this initiative in all Member States.

The EASF Director, Brigadier General Getachew Shiferaw welcomed the participants and thanked the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for hosting the seminar. He emphasized that by the end of the seminar, youth leaders from EASF Member States should take home what they have acquired during the seminar and apply in their respective countries.
 
Delegates from African Union, European Union, Civil Societies and representatives from the Host Nation are participating in the seminar. The Youth for Peace and Environmental Protection Seminar will end on 7th July by planting trees.
