EASF Director Pays a Courtesy call to the Ethiopian Minister of Defence
The New Director of Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), Brig Paul Kahuria Njema and the outgoing Director, Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa, paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Defence of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Hon Abraham Belay, on 16th May 2023, at Defence Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The EASF Director commended the leadership and guidance of Hon Abraham Belay, as the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Defence and Security for the past year until he handed over the in early 2023, as well as the unwavering support of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the EASF. Discussions focused on the role of the EASF to enhance Peace and Security in the Region as mandated by its Agreement of Establishment and by the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA). Brig Njema briefed the Minister of Defence on the Security Situation in the Region, mainly in Sudan and Somalia and reaffirmed the readiness of the EASF to perform its mandate.
The EASF delegation was also comprised of the Head of Administration and Finance, Col Mohamed Barkat Aden, the Force Commander, Brig Gen Vincent Gatama, the Chief of Staff of the Logistics Base, Col Ahmed Essa, the Liaison Officer at the AU Commission, Mr Vincent Dindon, and the Executive Assistant of the Director, Mr Irchad Ousseine Djoubeire.
