EASF Bids its former Director, Amb. Issimail Chanfi Goodbye
The Eastern Africa Standby Force held a farewell ceremony for the outgoing Director, Amb. Issimail Chanfi on Friday 21st April 2017 at the Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi.
Amb. Chanfi started his tenure as the Director of the regional peacekeeping force in 2014 and has
since then steered the organization through his exemplary leadership skills to making a remarkable footprint on the African continent in matters of peace and security. During his three years of service, Amb. Chanfi saw the organization attain its Full Operational Capability (FOC) - becoming the first Standby Force on the African continent to attain this status. He personally took part in verification of pledged capacities in EASF Member States in order to make sure that the organization is in a position to respond to crises' situations when and if mandated by the African Union to do the same.
It was also during his term that EASF acquired a Forward Force Headquarters Start-Up Kit comprising office and accommodation facilities for a forward force intervening in a crisis situation. The Director was at the forefront of consolidating EASF's partnerships with many countries including the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark in 2016. Amb. Chanfi oversaw the further development of the organization in strengthening its structures as well as developing and implementing globally recognised Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
During the ceremony, EASF welcomed the new Director, Dr Abdillahi Omar Bouh from the Republic of Djibouti. Dr. Bouh expressed his desire to take the organization to a higher level acknowledging that millions of people in EASF Member States are ready and willing to participate in institutional/nation building as long as peace exists in the region.
The ceremony was attended by the EASF Head of Administration and Finance, the EASF Joint Chief of Staff, Heads of Components, Senior Officers from International Peace Support Training Centre, Officials from the Union of Comoros, EASF Staff and other invited guests.
