African Union Verifies EASF’s Readiness

An African Union Verification team conducted a physical assessment of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) on 7th June 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The verification exercise focused on the preparedness and capability of EASF to deploy at any time if there is a need to do so on the continent.

The Director of EASF Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh assured the team of organizations readiness to intervene and successfully manage any conflict in the region as well as on the whole continent.

The AU Verification team visited the pledged capabilities of EASF Member States as a sample the Kenyan Army Medical Corp Level 2 Hospital at Embakasi, Nairobi. The Level 2 Hospital is fully equipped with a theater where surgeries can be performed, ICU Department, Laboratory, Pharmacy and Dispensary Mobile Care, Air Ambulance, Psychology Department, Communication Section and enough specialists.

He expressed his confidence that KRDC's capabilities and diverse contributions from the other 9 EASF Member States are adequate to address any possible conflict scenarios in the region.

The head of the AU Verification team Col. Billy Winter thanked EASF and the Kenyan Army Medical Corps for the warm hospitality and for great demonstration of the pledged Level 2 Hospital.

Col Billy Winter observed that EASF can fully attend to diverse medical cases in the field. After visiting the EASF Logistics Base in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the team concluded that EASF is on the right track in terms of readiness to deploy.
