Maritime Search and Rescue Course officially Opened in Entebbe, Uganda

A two weeks Maritime Search and Rescue course (SAR), has officially opened on 23rd September 2019 in Entebbe, Uganda. The course's aim is to train and equip naval, coastguard officers and maritime rescue coordination centers (MRCC) Staff with skills that enable them to respond to any emergencies or distress at sea.

The overall Objective of the course is to improve the regional coordination of maritime operations from shore-based centers (MRRC) or (MCC) to other government agencies who deal with maritime safety and security in order to respond to the accidents in the regional maritime zones.

EASF Director, in his remark to the participants, thanks the people and government of republic of Uganda for their continuous support to EASF activities, and for the hospitality that they extend to the participants, also he thanks EASF friends and supporters, Facilitators and regional instructors, participants and their respective countries for availing them to be part of this very important course.   

The Nordic Advisory Coordinator Staff (NACS) Representative to the EASF, CDR Stephan Sivaro, in his remarks said that, this course align with the capacity building strategy will enable EASF to respond to any search and rescue demands within the region.

Ceremony guest of honor, Host Nation Representative Uganda Air Force Deputy Commander, in his remarks to the participants, said it is expected that this event will contribute to the development of EASF in capability and capacity building perspectives. And said, he is very proud and happy to host the course in ENTEBBE, Uganda.

The course composed of 24 participants from Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and EASF Maritime Planning Cell Staff as well.
