EASF IMPC Regional Facilitators Attend UN-CMCOORD Course

In the efforts to have consolidated, skilled and competent humanitarian actors responding to both natural disasters and conflict/complex emergencies, the United Nations Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) conducts regular

readiness trainings around the world such as the United Nations Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination (UN-CMCOORD) Course. In Africa, the physical training was conducted at the United Nations Regional Training and Conference Center in Entebbe-Uganda from 15th to 19th December 2019 having been preceded by three weeks of online engagement.
 
Two of our Integrated Mission Planning Course- IMPC Regional facilitators from EASF were part of 23 participants recruited from around the world to be part of the December 2019 training. They are the first EASF representatives to be part of this international training. They were shortlisted after competitively undertaking the UN-CMCOORD online course and administrative recommendation from Mr. Peter Horne, the EASF Civilian Advisor and also the IMPC Course Director.

Why the IMPP Facilitators, one may ask? One of the important elements in a mission set-up is to develop liaison among the different actors/players, like the humanitarians, Host Nation and Peace Support Operators within the theater of operation; hence the IMPC Course member state participants are made aware of the role of the UN-CMCOORD Office and OCHA in general who act as the interface when providing either direct, indirect and infrastructural support. The two facilitators handle the UN Humanitarian Civil-Military coordination session among others in the IMPC Training.
