EASF Represented at the AU Youth Day Commemoration

The African Union Youth Day commemoration and announcement of the 2nd Cohort of Youth Ambassadors for peace was held on 12th November 2021 at the AU Secretariat in Addis Ababa.

In her opening remarks H.E Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs from the FDR of Ethiopia congratulated the youth ambassadors and the African Union for initiating such programmes. She called on the youth Ambassador to use this platform to engage with other young people and to push forward the youth agenda.

On his part, the EASF Youth Focal Person, Mr. Jules Hoareau congratulated the newly selected youth ambassadors for peace and he called on them to always put the best interest of the youths first and to be the torch bearers for all young people of their regions.
 
EASF has been actively engaged in the AU Youth for Peace Programme since its inception in 2018. To mark the AU Youth Day, the official campaign ‘’No room for Hate Speech’’ was also launched. The new cohort of AU youth ambassadors for peace are as follows:
Cynthia Chigwenya , Charles Ugochukwu Ukeje, Khouloud Baghouri NA,Diana Oaulo Chando, Mohamed Kunta.

The celebration of Africa Youth Day aims to tap into the potential of youth and harness it to better the lives of those who live on the African continent. The process is a statutory activity of the African Union to implement the Decision of the 33rd Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government which endorsed the Peace and Security Council’s appointment of five (5) regional African Youth Ambassadors for Peace.

The AYAPs are mandated to promote meaningful youth participation at all levels of peacebuilding across Africa for two years non-renewable. The mandate of AYAPs is in line with Article 17 of the AU Youth Charter (2006) and the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 (2015).
