Djibouti’s Chief of Defence Graces EASF Meeting
The EASF 23rd Ordinary Policy Organs Meeting (POM) kicked off on 14th January 2018 in the Republic of Djibouti.
The meeting was organized to provide guidance for executing EASF affairs at the policy and management levels. Discussions included the programme of activities and the EASF budget for the year 2018. The first level of the meeting was for the Experts Working Group (EWG).
The meeting was officially opened by Gen Zachariah Cheik Ibrahim, Chief of General Staff of the Republic of Djibouti. In his opening remarks, he noted with appreciation the impressive achievements so far attained by EASF. He urged the Experts to make an effort to come up with realistic recommendations for consideration by the Chiefs of Defence. “This will go a long way in helping EASF to move to the next level of the continental peace and security agenda,” he added.
Dr Abdillahi Omar Bouh, Director EASF highlighted the achievements of EASF since inception. “EASF has attained remarkable milestones, he said.” He recalled the three successful Command Post Exercises, in the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of the Sudan and in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia respectively.
The meeting included Experts from eight of the ten EASF member states with representation from military, police and civilian components. It preceded the meeting for the Eastern Africa Chiefs of Defence and Security (EACDS) which will take place on 16th and 17th January, 2018 at the same venue.
