Integrated Mission Planning Course Progresses as Scheduled

The EASF two-week Integrated Mission Planning Course (IMPC) which started on Monday 12th March 2018 at Rwanda Peace Academy, in Musanze, Rwanda has been progressing as planned and will close on Friday, 23rd March 2018.

The training seeks to enhance the participants' knowledge and understanding of the role and conduct EASF's Mission Planning and Integration in a multinational and multidimensional environment in order to enable them participate more effectively in future EASF deployments.

During the opening ceremony, EASF Joint Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Charles Rudakubana underlined the importance of the IMPC as a solid foundation capable of delivering required skills which will enable participants carry out well-coordinated and integrated missions when need arises. The IMPC constitutes a pre-deployment training and exclusive skills which hugely contribute to the participants' understanding of Mission Headquarters' structures and functions, he said. Those who have absorbed the training are able perform better in an Integrated Mission Headquarters' Joint Planning Group and in Integrated Mission Planning teams.

The coordinator of the Nordic Advisory and Coordination Staff (NACS) who is also the Danish Technical Advisor to EASF Colonel Claus Pedersen welcomed the participants to the course. He informed the audience that United Kingdom and Denmark have been supporting capacity building activities of EASF for over 10 years in order to enhance peace, security and stability the Eastern African Region.

The training is funded by British Peace Support Team East Africa (BPSTEA) and the Danish Government.

The IMPC course has 31 trainees from EASF Member states, namely, Comoros, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and EASF staff.
