Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

Ongoing Peace Support Operations (PSO) Civilian Foundation Course

On Thursday, June 6th, 2024, ongoing peace support operations (PSO) Civilian foundation training is taking place at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS), Nairobi.

 The training has drawn participants from all Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) countries, to provide an understanding of the conceptual framework of Peace Support Operations (PSO).

Brig. Gen Stephen Tumwesigye Kashure, the Joint Chief of Staff (JCOS) EASF, urged the participants at the opening ceremony, to benefit from the training, emphasized that the skills and knowledge gained during the course will be essential for their future assignments in PSO missions.

Col J K Rongoei, the Commandant of HPSS, outlined the objectives of the training program during his speech. He emphasized that the course is specifically designed to equip the trainees with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to handle challenges related to peace and cooperation.

Dr. Leah Barasa, the head of the civilian component at the EASF planning element, highlighted the significance of the (PSO) foundations course. She stressed that it is a crucial capacity development program for professional civilian experts who are roster admissible and interested in serving in Peace Support Operations.
