Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

EASF UNPOC Comes to a Successful Conclusion

An EASF United Nations Police Officers Course (UNPOC) which started on 29th April came to an end on 10th May 2019 at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) in Embakasi, Nairobi.

The course, planned in line with EASF calendar of activities for 2019, is a pre-requisite for deployment of trained police officers in peace keeping missions. It focuses mainly on delivering basic knowledge and skills in Peace Support Operations (PSOs) to police officers who could be engaged in such missions at a future date.

The closing ceremony was presided by the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) Commandant, Colonel B. M. Mzee assisted by the EASF Head of Police Component, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dinah Kyasiimire.

This basic course sets a platform upon which a police office can undertake specialization courses in the most appropriate field he/she is interested in. This contributes enormously towards maintaining the critical numbers required for deployment should EASF be mandated to deploy its forces at any given time in the region, on the African continent or beyond.

The two weeks course, drawing participants from across the ten EASF Member States, was fully funded by the African Union.
