Police Elections' Monitoring & Management Course Starts

Category: News

The Eastern Africa Standby Force launched the Police Component's Elections' Monitoring & Management Course at the International Peace Support Training Center (IPSTC) in Karen, Nairobi, Kenya on 16th April 2018.

The two-weeks' course aims to equip police officers from EASF Member States with knowledge and skills which are deemed necessary for efficient conduct of elections' monitoring and management. At present, Peace Support Operations (PSOs) have become complex and usually comprise multidimensional and multinational elements. It is therefore important that various role players in this field are able to implement the best monitoring and management practices in such environments.

Opening the course on behalf of the EASF Director Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh, the Head of Civilian Component, Mr. Steve Lalande welcomed the participants to the course. He highlighted the essence of professionalism in matters related to elections' monitoring and management; this is a pillar upon which credibility and trust are built.

Present during the opening ceremony was the Commandant of the Peace and Conflict Studies School (PCSS), Colonel F.G. Kihanya.

Mr. Lalande thanked the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs for funding the course which has been implemented through the Geselleschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
