Training on ASC Roster and Database Management

A comprehensive training on African Standby Capacity (ASC) Roster and Database Management was conducted successfully at EASF Secretariat in Nairobi, from 15-19 August 2022. A team of experts from the African Union led by Mr. Eustace Chiwombe, Chief of Capability Unit, accompanied by personnel from ACCORD and UNOAU, paid a courtesy call on the Director of EASF, Brigadier General Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa on Monday 15 August 2022. The visit was based on a request by the EASF for training on ASC Roster and Database Management. EASF personnel from the civilian component, ICT section and HR office attended the training, which ran over the course of the week.

EASF Election Mission Preliminary Statement

The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) presented its preliminary statement on the conduct of the General Elections this morning, Thursday 11th August 2022 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi. EASF deployed an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to the Republic of Kenya at the invitation of the Government.

Arrival Statement- EASF Election Observer Mission

The Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) announces the arrival of its election observation mission (EOM) to observe the general elections in the Republic of Kenya. The Eastern Africa Standby Force is a regional mechanism under the African Union and the EOM is under the responsibility of the Civilian Component of the EASF.

EASF HANDS workshop

EASF HANDS workshop held between 18-22 July 2022 in Khartoum Sudan. The objective was to validate and resource plans established in Burundi. This is part of process to actualise AU requirement on RMs to use ASF to handle HANDS noting that they also contribute to peace and security challenge in the region and entire continent.

EASF Conducts Tree Planting in Ethiopia

Youth leaders from EASF Members States as well as various leaders of youth and civil society organizations from Ethiopia braved the rainy and cold weather of Addis Ababa to plant trees on 14 July 2022. The tree planting activity was conducted at Gulele Botanic Garden, located in Addis Ababa.

Youth for Peace thrills in Addis Ababa

A group of over 100 youth people gathered in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Abba to discuss on the AU continental framework on youth, peace and security. The main objective of the program is to dissuade youth from violent actions and facilitate their meaningful participation in all spectrums of peace and security in Africa. In this regard, the program finalized the Continental Framework on Youth Peace and Security and its ten Year implementation plan which were adopted by the AU PSC in 2020.

EOM in KENYA

The planning team at Eastern Africa Standby Force presented its deployment plan of the observer mission in Kenya to the Director of EASF, Brig Gen. Gatachew Shiferaw Fayisa. The Head of Peace Operations Department, Brig Gen Kabisa Domitien and Head of Administration and Finance Ms Lina Peggy Hoareau and other EASF staff also attended the briefing.
